I expected this book to make me all rage-y and angst-y like most feminist books do

But instead what happened is that it totally explained all the reasons my husband and I fight... all the things that have made our life since having kids so... *hard.* And then I didn't have to be mad at my husband anymore and I didn't have to be mad at myself anymore and it was just such a... *relief.* God bless you Joan Williams.

  1. So are you saying it's not feminist enough for me and would make me all rage-y and angst-y? :D

  2. hmm... no, it's pretty feminist. but a lot of it is about motherhood in particular, and since you aren't presently a mother, you might be bored. but they do have this fascinating bit about lesbian mother/mother dualities that manage to break through the ideal-worker/marginalized-caretaker construct. I think she said that male gay parents still tend to conform to the typical iw/mc patterns, though--maybe because of the problematic nature of societal constructions of masculinity? anyway, totally worth a read if you're thinking about having kids any time in the future.
